Theme of the Hackathon: Smart Solutions for a Smart City – Smart City Applications for Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited, the Smart City of Panaji, Goa.
Background: Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL), the Special Purpose Vehicle of the Government of Goa, mandated for the implementation of the flagship Smart Cities Mission of the Government of India, in Panaji, Goa calls for participation from Smart Citizens (youth of all ages and gender) to be partners in the development process of the Smart City, by developing Smart Solutions to local challenges.
One of the key features of the Smart City as envisioned by the Government of India is the application of Smart Solutions which will involve the use of data and information and innovative application of technology for the provision of better infrastructure and urban services for the improvement of the Quality of Life of citizens. The aim of the Smart Panaji Hackathon is to bring together representatives from the ‘quadruple helix’ and utilise the concept of Open Innovation to address various challenges of urbanisation in the Smart City. This hackathon seeks to showcase the innovation ability of developers in the field of IoT based products and services as applicable for a smart city.
To promote open innovation, the capacity building of the developers’ community is key. Master Classes and Hackathon series is a flagship initiative to enable the developer community and startup community to look at local problems and produce interoperable global solutions. The India EU ICT Standard Collaboration Project promotes collaboration for creation of interoperable standards that provide a good return on investment on tax payers’ money and enabling open innovation.
